5 GREAT KID HIKES

  1. THE PA’RUS TRAIL is flat, scenic, and the kids can stop along the way to play in the river.
  2. THE RIVERSIDE WALK is another great kids hike with river access.
  3. THE LOWER EMERALD POOL TRAIL is another easy hike option for kids. No water access — the park does not allow swimming in the Emerald Pools — but the hike is very pleasant.
  4. THE MANY POOLS TRAIL in the East Canyon zone of the park features abundant pools that form in the slickrock full of frogs and tadpoles (in the warmer seasons) for kids to search.
  5. THE NORTHGATE PEAKS HIKE is a great option for families.

6 OTHER FUN KID ACTIVITIES

  1. WILDLIFE VIEWING
  2. VISIT THE ZION NATURE CENTER The Zion Nature Center, located north of South Campground, has a variety of exhibits, activities, books, and games for children and families to explore. Other options: become a Junior Ranger or attend a Ranger-led youth program. See nps.gov/zion for more information.
  3. GO PLAY A simple kids option to go play: visit the George Barker River Park in Springdale (2 minutes south of LaFave). Here the kids can splash in the river, play in the grassy field, catch frogs in the late evening, and enjoy a walking path over the bridge on the east side of the river. Obviously don’t let the kids in the river if it is running too high or fast.
  4. TUBING ON THE VIRGIN RIVER If your kids are older: go tubing down the Virgin River through town. Zion Outfitter rents tubes. They can give you specific info on where to get in and out and if conditions are safe.
  5. ZION ROCK & GEM. Take the kids to Zion Rock and Gem (it’s a two minute walk south of LaFave on Highway 9). Show them the amazing fossils and cool rocks and gems native to Utah. Maybe even buy them a souvenir.
  6. HORSEBACK RIDING. You may ride either in Zion (visit canyonrides.com for info) or out of the park at Jacobs Ranch (see ziontrailrides.com).
